As an alternative to the theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort is in south Orlando, adjacent to Interstate 4 and International Drive. The movie themed location has three separate theme parks: Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and the recently opened Epic Universe. Harry Potter fans will be spoiled with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Diagon Alley and Ministry of Magic attractions across the parks. CityWalk leads into the first two parks and gives visitors an special location aimed at dining, shopping and vibrant nightlife. Unlike some of the Walt Disney World Resort rides, the rides found at Universal Studios are as as much 'thrill' as fun, so height restrictions may apply. This restriction should give a good indication of how family-friendly they are for smaller children and how much adults will enjoy them.
Epic UniverseEpic Universe is the latest Orlando super-theme park which opened in May 2025. Located around 3 miles from the existing Universal Studios Resort parks, this new park offers visitors attractions based around five immersive worlds. There is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic which is set in 1920s Paris, Super Nintendo World giving all the family something special, Isle of Berk with it's white-knuckle rides, Dark Universe for myth and mystery, as well as Celestial Park which links all this together. Fantastic rides, an awesome setting and much more.

Universal StudiosUniversal Studios is alongside the Islands of Adventure park and working film studio all in one. Expect to see thrill rides based on your favourite movie sets, from the high-speed Revenge of the Mummy rollercoaster, to the towering 65mph Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. If you want something more relaxing, ride the awesome Transformers 3D and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts simulator rides. For something more stomach-churning, soar through Krustyland on the Simpsons simulation-coaster - crashing and smashing your way through the film set. Not one for rollercoasters, but prefer to shoot aliens with ray-guns? Men In Black Alien Attack or Villain-Con Minion Blast are probably your scene.
If this sounds all too much thrill and not enough chill, Universal Studios also has a variety of shows and rides aimed at younger visitors. Journey through the magical ET Adventure on your flying bicycle or escape 'spooky spiders' on the Trolls Trollercoaster. Islands of AdventureIslands of Adventure is one of the connected theme parks at Universal Resort, offering white-knuckle thrills and attractions through the world of film and cartoons. With the ominous Incredible Hulk Coaster and the awesome Jurassic World VelociCoaster, these rollercoasters are not for the faint-hearted. There's also the incredible Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and the immersive ride that is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
It's not just about the thrills; with family-friendly favourites such as the Amazing Adventures of Spiderman, Skull Island: Reign of Kong and Flight of the Hippogriff. If you want to cool down in the Florida sunshine (and don't mind getting a little wet) head for the Jurassic Park River Adventure, Dudley Do-Rights Ripsaw Falls or Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges. Just don't forget the poncho! Children can explore the Me Ship, The Olive interactive play area, fly over the park in the Pteranodon Flyers or go round and round on the Caro-Seuss-el!

Wizarding World of Harry PotterThese attractions offer Harry Potter fans the chance to visit Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade village, Diagon Alley and other famous landmarks from the series. Being Orlando however, ”interactivity” is the buzzword, so expect more than just static sets - expect real-life interaction with an emphasis on fun and excitement. The Forbidden Journey of Harry Potter is an 'totally immersive', dark simulator robo-coaster ride, whilst the Flight of the Hippogriff is a family-friendly roller-coaster ride. Take time out to relax with a walk through Hogsmeade village in the winter. For budding wizards, an array of gift shops are available to purchase those essentials - wand, broom stick, latest spells. The wands will even come alive only when selected by their rightful wizards.
The Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts simulator ride is set in Diagon Alley with a fire-breathing dragon. Another immersive 3D thrill-ride with fantastic visuals and awesome sound. Where you have access to both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, then you can travel on the Hogsmeade Express. It's not just a train, but a magical journey between the two Harry Potter lands.
